You’ve Got Mail. Are you old enough to remember that line from that Meg Ryan movie?
Email has taken the world by storm and because it is so cheap you can and should use it a lot for your marketing.
So what you should be doing with email:
- Build a prospect list using web forms on your site.
- Building relationships with your prospects with real communication.
- Maintaining relationships with your active and inactive clients again with real communication.
Building a prospect list is easily done by adding a web form to your website and offering something of value to people that will enter their information. Free information, Free Consultation or something of value to the end user that you can easily provide without much cost.
Building relationships with your prospects is done through communicating to them like the real people they are. Help them by giving them the information they want or need not the sales pitch you want to do. New York Times best seller Gary Vaynerchuk talks about right, right, jab by which he means give, give, pitch. Most people pitch, pitch, pitch whether email, social media or other imagine you are at a cocktail party if you pitch, pitch pitch you become that guy or gal that everyone avoids. Just be real and communicate like you would at an in person social gathering.
Then your current clients should be given communication that they would enjoy and want to help them use your product or services not necessarily to buy more of it but we of course do want that also. But remember it is not about us it is about them. Give, Give, Give, and I would suggest give more to your current clients.
Then what about those that have been your clients, have shown interest you and what you do. Build relationship with them and perhaps you can move them from the inactive client list back to the active client list.
By doing these steps you can move people from visitor to prospect, from prospect to client or customer, from client or customer to a new referral source for new business or leaving you reviews on the internet which can then assist other people to become visitor, prospects and clients or customers.
Get to know your people. How old are they? Where are they from? What do they like to do? Because you care. And by caring and knowing them you will become a better marketer by finding more ways to locate, contact, real to and build relationships with more people like them more people like you.
That is known as the circle of life or the customer life cycle. You want to move people from clients or customers to friends, fans your own brand’s tribe. It has been said that any company only needs 1000 true friends to be successful. These true fans become brand evangelists.
Email marketing makes this easy, you can automate it but most importantly remember to be cool, be real and give to others.
